"Taking medication for my mental health means I don't have enough faith in God to heal me."
How it sounds in your head: Real Christians shouldn't need antidepressants. If I just prayed more or had stronger faith, I wouldn't need these pills. Taking meds is admitting God isn't enough.
"Jesus answered and said to them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.'"
-- Luke 5:31Source: religion - twisted teaching that equates faith with refusing medical help, making the sick feel condemned for being sick.
You see other Christians claim they were healed without medicine, and you wonder if your faith is just too weak. The shame of needing pills feels like you're failing at trusting God.
Timothy had frequent stomach problems and other ailments. Paul didn't rebuke his faith or tell him to just pray harder - he prescribed medicine (wine for medicinal use), showing God's healing includes both supernatural and natural means.
I REFUSE the lie that medication equals weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus affirmed physicians, and Paul prescribed medicine to Timothy. My brain chemistry is no different than my insulin or my heart medication - God created doctors and medicine as His instruments of healing. IT IS WRITTEN that Abraham's blessing is mine through Christ, and that blessing includes EVERY provision for wholeness. I receive healing however God sends it - supernatural, medical, or both. I am not weak; I am WISE to use every tool my Father provides.
Your Father isn't standing back disappointed that you need medication - He's the One who gave humans the intelligence to create it! He's running toward you with the pill bottle AND the supernatural touch, whichever you need, because He just wants you WHOLE.
