"Christians can't have demons, so my struggle must mean I'm either unsaved or totally possessed."
How it sounds in your head: I've heard pastors say Christians can't have demons because the Holy Spirit and demons can't coexist. But I'm clearly dealing with something dark. Does that mean I was never saved, or am I fully possessed?
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
-- Ephesians 6:12Source: Religious debate that creates false dichotomy—either you're immune to all spiritual attack or you're demon-possessed—ignoring that believers can be harassed externally without being indwelt.
The teaching sounds logical—light and darkness can't coexist. But this ignores the difference between oppression (external attack) and possession (internal control), leaving you terrified you're one or the other extreme.
Peter, a disciple who walked with Jesus, spoke words directly from Satan—Jesus said 'Get behind Me, Satan' to Peter. Peter wasn't possessed, but the enemy influenced his thinking in that moment, proving believers can be targeted without being indwelt.
I REFUSE the lie that demonic struggle means I'm unsaved or possessed. IT IS WRITTEN: Believers wrestle against principalities and powers—we have ARMOR because we're in a battle. I am a temple of the Holy Spirit, which means demons can't possess me, but they absolutely attack what they can't control. IT IS WRITTEN: Greater is He in me than any force attacking from outside. I'm not demon-possessed; I'm demon-OPPOSED because I carry the presence of God. I am the BARAK—blessed and protected by covenant that covered Abraham even when he stumbled.
Your Father doesn't see you as demon-possessed or unsaved—He sees His daughter learning to use the weapons He's given you for a battle He's already won. He's not confused about your salvation; He's training you to recognize that attacks don't mean ownership.
