"Christians can't have demons, so if I'm struggling with dark thoughts, I must not be saved."
How it sounds in your head: Real Christians don't battle intrusive thoughts like this. If I were truly born again, the Holy Spirit would protect me. These thoughts prove I'm not actually saved, just religious.
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
-- Romans 8:38-39Source: Religious teaching creating false dichotomy that either you're perfectly free or unsaved, denying ongoing warfare reality.
Church culture presents salvation as immediately ending all spiritual struggle. The persistence of dark thoughts feels like evidence of absence of God's presence.
Paul, who wrote half the New Testament and was caught up to the third heaven, had a messenger of Satan buffeting him. God's response wasn't deliverance but declaration: 'My grace is sufficient.' The greatest apostle experienced demonic harassment and remained fully saved, fully loved, fully used.
I REFUSE the lie that struggles prove I'm unsaved. IT IS WRITTEN: NOTHING can separate me from God's love—not principalities, not powers, not any created thing. My salvation is sealed by the Holy Spirit, guaranteed by Christ's blood, and secured by the Father's promise. IT IS WRITTEN: I shall NEVER perish and no one can snatch me from His hand. Intrusive thoughts are warfare, not identity. I am Abraham's seed, blessed by COVENANT not consciousness. My Father knows the battle and calls me BELOVED in the middle of it.
Your Father isn't questioning your salvation because of your thoughts. He's running to you with absolute assurance, placing the ring of authority on your finger even while the battle rages, celebrating that you're His child—not because of your victory but because of Christ's.
