"Being single this long means I'm too selfish, too set in my ways for relationship."
How it sounds in your head: You've lived alone so long that your routines are sacred. You like your space, your schedule, your way of doing things. Friends joke that you're 'set in your ways' and you wonder if they're right. Maybe you've become too independent, too comfortable alone. Maybe that's the real reason no one has come—you're simply too difficult to integrate into someone's life now.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17World + religious lie that independence equals selfishness and disqualifies you from companionship.
You've seen how couples compromise and you're not sure you could anymore. You don't have to negotiate where to eat, what to watch, how the house is arranged. There's a comfort in autonomy that feels both like wisdom and like a prison. Maybe you've missed the window when you were flexible enough for relationship.
Moses was 80 years old, living in the desert for 40 years in his own routine, when God called him to the greatest adventure of his life. He didn't need to become more flexible first—God used him exactly where he was and transformed him in the process.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too set in my ways for relationship. IT IS WRITTEN that in Christ I am a NEW creation—old things pass away and all things become new. I am NOT stuck in patterns—I am FLEXIBLE in the hands of God. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 1:6 that He who began a good work in me will complete it. God isn't waiting for me to become less independent—He's waiting for the RIGHT moment to bring the RIGHT person. The BARAK blessing doesn't require me to be perfect first—it's based on covenant, not character development. I am ready for what God has for me because HE makes me ready.
The Father doesn't see you as too rigid—He sees you as mature, wise, and ready for the relationship He's prepared. Like the prodigal's father, He doesn't require you to shape up first; He runs toward you and shapes you in the embrace.
