"Asking God for abundance when I have enough is ungrateful and greedy."
How it sounds in your head: I should just be thankful for what I have instead of always wanting more. Asking for abundance when people are starving feels wrong. Maybe I'm just never satisfied. Maybe that's a character flaw.
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."
-- Ephesians 3:20Religious redefinition of contentment as settling for less instead of resting in God's abundance.
He's heard 'be content' twisted to mean 'stop asking for more.' Gratitude gets weaponized into guilt about desire, making him feel greedy for wanting God's best.
Woman came for one jar of water - enough for the day. Jesus offered LIVING WATER that becomes a FOUNTAIN springing up to eternal life. He didn't rebuke her small request - He MULTIPLIED it into an unending supply.
I REFUSE the lie that asking for abundance is ungrateful. IT IS WRITTEN that God does exceedingly abundantly ABOVE all I ask or think. He's not offended by big requests - He's GLORIFIED when I believe Him for overflow. IT IS WRITTEN: Open your mouth WIDE and I will fill it. My Father didn't design me for survival mode - He designed me for ABUNDANCE. The BARAK blessing includes being above ONLY and not beneath, the HEAD and not the tail. That's not barely-enough language - that's MORE-than-enough language. I am grateful for what I have AND expectant for what's coming. Contentment doesn't mean stop asking - it means rest in the PROMISE while the manifestation is on the way. I ask BIG because my Father is not small, stingy, or limited. He owns everything, and as His son, so do I.
Your Father is running toward you with the fattened calf - not a leftover hamburger, not rice and beans, but the BEST in the house. He's not rationing because resources are limited - He's celebrating because sons get ABUNDANCE, not allowances.
