"Asking God for things I want is selfish; I should only ask for needs, not wants."
How it sounds in your head: I can pray for food or safety, but asking for things I want—like a new bike or cool stuff—feels selfish. God has more important things to care about than my wants. I should keep my prayers serious and only ask for necessities.
"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"
-- Matthew 7:11Religion separated needs from wants, making God a utilitarian provider instead of a delighted Father who loves giving GOOD gifts.
He's been taught to pray for 'serious' things and not 'bother' God with personal desires. His wants feel trivial compared to world problems.
They ran out of WINE—not food, not water—WINE for a party. Jesus' first miracle wasn't healing or deliverance but providing 180 gallons of the BEST WINE for a celebration. God cares about your JOY and your WANTS, not just survival.
I REFUSE the lie that asking for wants is selfish! IT IS WRITTEN that my Father gives GOOD THINGS to those who ask—not just needs, but things that bring JOY. Jesus' first miracle was 180 gallons of the BEST wine for a party! My Father DELIGHTS in my desires. The BARAK blessing isn't minimal survival—it's ABUNDANCE. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives me richly ALL THINGS TO ENJOY. I ask boldly for wants AND needs because my Father loves giving GOOD gifts!
The Father doesn't roll His eyes at your wants—He smiles and says 'watch this!' He turned water into the BEST wine for a party because your joy matters to Him. Ask away.
