The Blessing of Abraham

How Grace—Not Law—Releases Prosperity, Protection, and Favor in Your Life

"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us... That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

— Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)

1 What is THE Blessing?

In Genesis 12:1-3, God made an unconditional covenant with Abraham that would change human history. This wasn't just a blessing among many—it was THE Blessing: a comprehensive promise of prosperity, protection, favor, and purpose.

"And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."

— Genesis 12:2-3 (KJV)

Hebrew Word Study: Barak (בָּרַךְ)

בָּרַךְ

Barak means to kneel (as in worship), but when God does the blessing, it means to endue with power for success, prosperity, longevity, and fruitfulness. Unlike human blessing, God's blessing carries creative power—it causes what it declares.

The Components of Abraham's Blessing

✦ Prosperity

Abraham became exceedingly wealthy in livestock, silver, and gold (Genesis 13:2)

✦ Protection

God promised to curse those who cursed Abraham—divine covering

✦ Favor

His name became great; kings sought alliance with him

✦ Purpose

He became a channel of blessing to all nations

Key Insight

Notice the blessing came 430 years before the Law was given (Galatians 3:17). Abraham received it by faith alone—not by works, not by circumcision, not by keeping commandments. This is crucial for understanding how we receive it today.

2 Protection & The Angel Who Redeems

When Jacob blessed Joseph's sons in Genesis 48, he invoked a mysterious figure—the Angel who redeemed him from all evil. This wasn't a created angel but the pre-incarnate Christ.

"The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth."

— Genesis 48:16 (KJV)

Hebrew Word Study: Ga'al (גָּאַל)

גָּאַל

Ga'al means to act as kinsman-redeemer—to buy back, rescue, deliver, and avenge. Jacob testified that this Angel had been his kinsman-redeemer throughout his life, delivering him from Esau, Laban, and every scheme of the enemy.

This same Angel—Jesus Christ—is your Redeemer today. The blessing includes redemption from all evil: from sickness, poverty, fear, and every scheme of the enemy.

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone."

— Psalm 91:11-12 (KJV)

3 Law vs. Grace: Two Different Covenants

Many believers unknowingly mix the Old Covenant (Law) with the New Covenant (Grace), creating a hybrid religion that produces neither the blessings of law-keeping nor the freedom of grace. Understanding the difference is essential.

"For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."

— John 1:17 (KJV)

The Law's Purpose

The Law was never meant to make people righteous. It was given to reveal sin and our need for a Savior:

"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."

— Romans 3:20 (KJV)

The Law's Limitation

If you try to be justified by law, you must keep ALL of it perfectly. "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10). One failure brings the curse of the entire law upon you.

Grace: A Better Covenant

"But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises."

— Hebrews 8:6 (KJV)
Old Covenant

Based on man's performance; "Do this and live"

New Covenant

Based on Christ's finished work; "It is finished"

Law Demands

Righteousness from man (which he cannot provide)

Grace Provides

Righteousness as a gift through faith

4 Legalism as Spiritual Adultery

Paul uses startling language in Romans 7 to describe believers who return to law-keeping after receiving grace. He calls it spiritual adultery.

"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God."

— Romans 7:4 (KJV)

Just as a married woman is bound to her husband while he lives, we were once bound to the Law. But through Christ's death, we died to the Law and are now "married" to Christ. To go back to law-keeping is like a wife returning to a former husband—it's spiritual adultery!

Paul's Stern Warning

"Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." (Galatians 5:4) This doesn't mean losing salvation—it means falling from grace's method of operation into law's fruitless striving.

Why This Matters

When you mix law and grace, you get neither the blessing of perfect law-keeping (impossible) nor the blessing of grace (nullified by self-effort). You end up with condemnation, frustration, and powerlessness. Grace only operates through faith, not works!

5 Redemption from the Curse

Deuteronomy 28 lists the blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience under the Law. The curses include poverty, sickness, defeat, confusion, and being the tail instead of the head. But Christ redeemed us from every one of these curses!

"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree."

— Galatians 3:13 (KJV)

What the Curse Included

Poverty

"Thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway" (Deut 28:33)

Sickness

"Every sickness and plague" (Deut 28:61)

Defeat

"The Lord shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies" (Deut 28:25)

Confusion

"Madness, blindness, and astonishment of heart" (Deut 28:28)

When Christ became a curse for us on the cross, He exhausted the law's every penalty. There is no curse left for the believer! Satan has no legal right to enforce any curse against you.

"That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

— Galatians 3:14 (KJV)

The Exchange

At the cross, a divine exchange took place: Jesus took our curse so we could receive His blessing. He took our poverty so we could have His abundance. He took our sickness so we could have His health. He took our rejection so we could have His acceptance.

6 Healing: The Forgotten Element of The Blessing

One of the most overlooked aspects of Abraham blessing is physical healing and bodily restoration. When God blessed Abraham, He did not just promise spiritual favor—He literally reversed the effects of aging and death in Abraham body. This healing power flowed through every generation that carried the blessing.

And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.

— Romans 4:19-20 (KJV)

Abraham Body: From Death to Life

Consider what Scripture actually says about Abraham physical condition. At nearly 100 years old, his body was as good as dead (Hebrews 11:12). Sarah womb was not just barren—it was dead. The Greek word used is nekrosis, meaning a state of death, deadness, or mortification.

Greek Word Study: Nekrosis

nekrosis

Nekrosis means the state of death or dying—the same root as necrosis in medical terminology. Paul is saying Abraham reproductive system was clinically dead. Yet through faith in God promise, life entered where death had reigned. This is resurrection power!

But the blessing did not just enable Abraham to father Isaac—it restored his entire body. After Sarah died, Abraham married Keturah and fathered six more sons (Genesis 25:1-2)! At well over 100 years old, Abraham body was functioning with the vitality of a much younger man. This is the healing power of the blessing.

Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

— Genesis 25:1-2 (KJV)

The Blessing Brought Strength for the Journey

When God called Abraham at age 75, He did not just promise him land—He empowered his body for the journey. Abraham traveled hundreds of miles on foot across difficult terrain. He fought battles against kings. He lived a vigorous, active life for another 100 years after receiving the blessing. The blessing included divine health and supernatural strength.

The Pattern of Healing

Notice the pattern: God blessing always includes physical provision. When He called Abraham to travel, He strengthened his body to travel. When He promised offspring, He restored reproductive function. When He promised long life, He gave health to enjoy it. The blessing is comprehensive—spirit, soul, AND body.

Healing Passed Through the Generations

This healing blessing did not stop with Abraham. Every patriarch who carried the blessing of Abraham experienced supernatural health and vitality:

Isaac

Lived to 180 years. Remained strong enough that Esau feared him even in old age (Genesis 35:28)

Jacob

Wrestled with an angel all night at age 97. Traveled to Egypt at 130 and lived 17 more years (Genesis 47:28)

Joseph

Lived to 110 with full mental clarity. Saw Ephraim children of the third generation (Genesis 50:23)

Moses

At 120 years, his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated (Deuteronomy 34:7)

And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

— Deuteronomy 34:7 (KJV)

This was not natural aging—this was supernatural preservation. The blessing of Abraham included divine health that defied the normal process of decay and death.

Healing Flows Through Yeshua

Here is the key truth: Yeshua (Jesus) is how we receive this blessing today. Just as the blessing of Abraham included healing for Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses, that same blessing—with its healing power—now comes to us through faith in Messiah.

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

— Galatians 3:14 (KJV)

When Yeshua went to the cross, He did not just bear our sins—He bore our sicknesses. Isaiah prophesied this hundreds of years before:

Surely he hath borne our griefs [Hebrew: choliy - sicknesses], and carried our sorrows [Hebrew: makob - pains]: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities... and with his stripes we are healed.

— Isaiah 53:4-5 (KJV)

Hebrew Word Study: Choliy and Rapha

choliy / rapha

Choliy specifically means sickness, disease, or malady—not just emotional grief. And rapha (healed) means to mend, cure, or restore to health. Matthew confirms this interpretation: Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses (Matthew 8:17). Physical healing was purchased at the cross.

Yeshua: The Seed of Abraham Who Heals

Yeshua is the ultimate Seed of Abraham through whom all the promises flow (Galatians 3:16). When you are in Messiah, you are Abraham seed and heir to everything the blessing includes—including healing.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

— Galatians 3:16 (KJV)

And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

— Galatians 3:29 (KJV)

This means the same resurrection power that quickened Abraham dead body and opened Sarah dead womb is available to you through Yeshua. The same blessing that kept Moses strong at 120 and gave Jacob strength to wrestle angels is your inheritance in Messiah.

The Connection is Yeshua

Without Yeshua, we have no access to Abraham blessing. But IN Yeshua, we have full access to every aspect of it—including divine health and healing. Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree... by whose stripes ye were healed (1 Peter 2:24). The healing is already accomplished—we receive it by faith!

How to Receive Healing Through The Blessing

Receive Your Healing

  • Know You Are an Heir: Through Yeshua, you are Abraham seed. The blessing—including healing—is your legal inheritance.
  • Understand the Exchange: Yeshua bore your sicknesses at the cross. By His stripes you WERE healed (past tense—it is done!).
  • Receive Like Abraham: Abraham did not consider his dead body—he considered God promise. Do not focus on symptoms; focus on Scripture.
  • Speak Life: Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Declare: I am healed by the stripes of Yeshua.
  • Rest in Grace: Healing is not earned by faith-performance. It is received by trusting in Yeshua finished work. Rest!

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.

— Psalm 103:2-3 (KJV)

7 Faith, Not Works

Abraham received the blessing before circumcision, before the Law, and before any works. He simply believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.

"And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness."

— Genesis 15:6 (KJV)

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

— Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)

Why Works Cannot Earn Blessing

If the blessing could be earned, it would be wages, not grace. It would put God in our debt, which is impossible. Grace means unmerited favor—something given freely that could never be deserved.

"Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."

— Romans 4:4-5 (KJV)

The Galatian Error

The Galatians started in the Spirit but tried to be perfected by the flesh (Galatians 3:3). They added law to grace, which always nullifies grace. Don't make their mistake! Rest in Christ's finished work.

Faith Defined

Biblical faith isn't mental assent or wishful thinking. It's resting in what God has said and done. When you understand that Christ has already secured every blessing for you, faith becomes natural—you simply receive what's already yours!

8 Dominion Restored: The Fish with a Coin

In Matthew 17, when tax collectors demanded the temple tax from Jesus, He demonstrated something profound about the believer's dominion—even over nature and provision.

"Go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee."

— Matthew 17:27 (KJV)

Notice: Jesus didn't work for the money, borrow it, or pray anxiously. He simply spoke with authority and provision came through an unusual channel. This demonstrates the dominion Adam lost and Christ restored.

Your Restored Dominion

In the beginning, God gave man dominion over all creation (Genesis 1:28). Through sin, that dominion was forfeited to Satan. But through Christ, we've been raised up and seated with Him in heavenly places, far above all principality and power (Ephesians 1:20-21, 2:6).

Authority Over Lack

You're not bound by economic circumstances—provision can come supernaturally

Authority Over Sickness

"They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover" (Mark 16:18)

Authority Over Demons

"Behold, I give unto you power... over all the power of the enemy" (Luke 10:19)

Authority in Prayer

"Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do" (John 14:13)

9 Jesus, Our Advocate and High Priest

Even when we fail, we have an Advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ the righteous. He doesn't accuse us; He intercedes for us!

"My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins."

— 1 John 2:1-2 (KJV)

Greek Word Study: Parakletos (παράκλητος)

παράκλητος

Parakletos means one called alongside to help—a legal advocate, helper, comforter, and intercessor. Jesus stands at the Father's right hand, not to condemn you but to plead your case based on His finished work.

"Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."

— Romans 8:34 (KJV)

Freedom from Condemnation

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1). The devil may accuse, your conscience may condemn, but Jesus has already paid for every sin. His blood speaks better things than the blood of Abel—it cries "Forgiven!" not "Guilty!"

10 The Prodigal Son: Grace in Action

Jesus' parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) is the most beautiful picture of grace in Scripture. It demolishes every notion that we must earn our way back to the Father.

"But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."

— Luke 15:20 (KJV)

The Father's Response

The son came prepared with a speech: "Make me as one of thy hired servants." But the father interrupted him. He wouldn't let his son finish the self-degrading speech. Instead:

The Best Robe

Covering of righteousness—the father's own robe on the son

A Ring

Symbol of authority and family inheritance—full sonship restored

Sandals

Servants went barefoot; sons wore shoes—identity declared

The Fattened Calf

Celebration and abundance—not punishment or probation

The Elder Brother's Error

The elder son was angry. He'd served faithfully but never enjoyed the Father's abundance. This represents legalists who serve God for reward rather than relationship. The father said, "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine." The blessing was always available—he just never received it!

11 Consider the Birds: Freedom from Anxiety

Jesus taught that the Father's provision is so certain, we don't need to worry. If He feeds the birds, how much more will He care for His children?

"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"

— Matthew 6:26 (KJV)

"Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?... for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things."

— Matthew 6:31-32 (KJV)

The Solution to Worry

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

— Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

Understanding "Seek First"

Under grace, "seeking the kingdom" isn't striving or working harder. It's believing the gospel—resting in Christ's righteousness rather than establishing your own. When you're secure in His love, anxiety loses its grip, and provision flows naturally.

12 How to Receive The Blessing

The blessing of Abraham is already yours in Christ. You don't earn it, achieve it, or qualify for it—you simply receive it by faith.

"And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

— Galatians 3:29 (KJV)

Steps to Receiving

Practical Application

  • Believe the Gospel: Christ has redeemed you from every curse. The blessing is legally yours through His finished work.
  • Renounce Self-Effort: Stop trying to earn what's already been given. Rest in grace, not works.
  • Declare the Word: Speak what God says about you: "I am blessed. I am redeemed. I am Abraham's heir."
  • Receive by Faith: Don't wait to feel blessed. Thank God now for what Christ has secured.
  • Live from Blessing: Your actions now flow from identity, not toward earning. You give because you're blessed, not to get blessed.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ."

— Ephesians 1:3 (KJV)

13 Living in The Blessing Daily

The blessing isn't just for eternity—it's for right now. God wants you to experience His prosperity, protection, favor, and purpose today.

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."

— 3 John 1:2 (KJV)
