"You've been sexually assaulted, so you're permanently broken and damaged goods."
How it sounds in your head: What happened to you ruined you. You'll never be whole again. No one will want you if they know. You're tainted, dirty, less than. The trauma lives in your body and you can't escape it. You're broken beyond repair.
"To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."
-- Isaiah 61:3Source: Trauma, enemy's lie of permanent defilement, shame that wasn't yours to carry, religious purity culture that measures worth by virginity.
Your body remembers the assault. You have triggers, flashbacks, fear. The violation feels like it stole something you can never get back. Shame feels like a second skin, and 'damaged goods' feels like the truest thing about you.
Tamar was raped by her half-brother Amnon and called herself 'desolate.' The Bible records her trauma with brutal honesty. Yet later in Matthew 1, there's a Tamar in Jesus' genealogy—possibly the same woman or God's way of saying violated women are IN the Messianic line. God doesn't discard the wounded.
I REFUSE the lie that I am permanently broken by sexual assault. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives beauty for ashes and restores what was stolen. What happened to me does NOT define me. I am not damaged goods. I am not dirty. I am a beloved daughter, made whole by the blood of Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ. The shame is not mine to carry—it belongs to the one who violated me. The BARAK blessing over my life includes complete restoration—spirit, soul, AND body. I am being made whole, and I WILL testify to God's healing power.
The Father weeps with you over what was stolen, and He's running toward you not with judgment or disappointment, but with fury at the enemy who hurt you and fierce tenderness to restore everything that was taken—your peace, your joy, your sense of safety, your wholeness.
