"You're too young to make decisions that really matter. Wait for adults to tell you what to do with your life."
How it sounds in your head: Every major decision about your future—college, career, where you live—gets filtered through parents, counselors, and other adults who 'know better.' You have strong convictions about your path but get told 'you'll change your mind' or 'let's be realistic' like your desires don't count yet. You're old enough to choose your entire future but too young to be trusted with the choice.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
-- Jeremiah 29:11Source: Culture that simultaneously demands teens make massive life decisions while dismissing their judgment as too immature to trust, creating paralyzing double-bind.
You're literally being forced to choose a college major and career path that will affect the rest of your life, but every time you voice what you want, adults 'guide' you toward something more 'practical' because you 'don't understand real life yet.' You're old enough to decide but too young to be trusted.
Mary was likely 14-16 years old when an angel appeared and asked her to carry the Messiah—a decision that would change ALL of human history. She didn't ask her parents, didn't consult elders, didn't wait until she was 'old enough'—she said 'let it be to me according to your word' and made the most important YES in history as a TEENAGER.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too young to make decisions that matter about my own life and future. IT IS WRITTEN that God knows the plans He has for ME—thoughts of peace, a future, and a hope that are MINE, not someone else's version of what my life should be. IT IS WRITTEN that Mary said YES to the most important mission in human history as a teenage girl—no committee, no waiting period, no 'let's see when you're older.' She trusted God's voice and so do I. I have the Holy Spirit living in me, which means I have the ultimate Counselor guiding my decisions RIGHT NOW. I honor wise counsel but I am not enslaved to others' opinions about MY life. God has a plan for me that He's revealing to me NOW, and I have the wisdom and authority to make decisions that align with His voice. I am not too young to hear Him or too immature to follow Him. I walk in confidence because I'm being LED by the Spirit, not controlled by fear of making the 'wrong' choice. God's plans for me are GOOD, and He's showing me the way NOW.
The Father isn't waiting for you to 'mature' before He lets you in on His plans for your life—He's been whispering them to you all along, and He TRUSTS you to hear Him and respond. He's the God who gave teenage Mary the most important mission in history, who told young Jeremiah 'I knew you before you were born and I have plans for you'—He's not intimidated by your age or worried you'll mess up His purposes.
