"You're too young to hear God's voice clearly. That's for mature Christians with years of experience."
How it sounds in your head: You feel something in prayer but immediately doubt it because you're 'too new' or 'too young' to really hear God. The adults talk about 'learning to discern His voice over time' and you figure you're years away from that. Every prompting gets second-guessed because what if you're just making it up and you won't know the difference until you're older?
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."
-- John 10:27Source: Religion's hierarchy that treats intimacy with God like a corporate ladder you climb through tenure rather than a birthright you inherit through the new birth.
Every book on hearing God talks about 'maturing in discernment' and 'testing over years,' and the prayer warriors at church are all decades older than you with stories spanning lifetimes. You've been saved for maybe a few years max—how could you possibly hear as clearly as them?
Samuel was a young boy serving in the temple when God spoke to him—so young he didn't even recognize God's voice at first and had to ask Eli. Yet God chose to speak a nation-altering prophetic word through a CHILD over the experienced priest, and Samuel's word 'did not fall to the ground.' Immediate accuracy, young prophet.
I REFUSE the lie that my age or newness in faith limits my ability to hear God's voice clearly. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus' sheep hear His voice—no age restriction, no experience requirement, no maturity clause. I am His sheep, therefore I HEAR. IT IS WRITTEN that I have an anointing from the Holy One and I know all things—not eventually, but NOW. Samuel heard nation-changing revelation as a child, and the same Spirit who spoke to him speaks to me. I don't have a junior Holy Spirit with limited communication abilities—I have the FULL Holy Spirit living in me, and He talks to those He lives in. I hear the Father's voice because I am His beloved child, and children know their Father's voice from DAY ONE. I trust what I hear in my spirit because I am connected to the Source of all truth, and that connection isn't age-gated.
The Father isn't waiting for you to 'mature enough' to have real conversations with Him—He's been talking to you since before you could name it, and now that you know Him, He's thrilled to have you recognize His voice. He's the God who speaks to children in dreams, who reveals Himself to the young, who HIDES things from the 'wise and prudent' and reveals them to BABES because intimacy isn't earned through tenure—it's received through trust.
