"Your retirement savings prove you didn't trust God. Real faith would have given it all away."
How it sounds in your head: Preachers praised missionaries who 'lived by faith' with no savings. You feel guilty for your 401k. Maybe you played it too safe. Maybe your financial planning was unbelief disguised as wisdom. Real men of God don't need retirement accounts.
"A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous."
-- Proverbs 13:22Source: Religious teaching that equates poverty with spirituality; false humility that scorns wise stewardship as 'trusting in riches.'
You see retired missionaries living hand-to-mouth and they seem more 'spiritual.' Preachers quote 'consider the lilies' while shaming men who plan ahead. Your savings feel like evidence you trusted Fidelity more than God.
Joseph stored grain for SEVEN YEARS during abundance to prepare for famine. He didn't 'live by faith' without planning—he planned wisely and saved nations. God called this WISDOM, not unbelief.
I REFUSE the lie that financial planning is unbelief. IT IS WRITTEN that a good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children (Proverbs 13:22). God gave me the POWER to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). IT IS WRITTEN that the borrower is servant to the lender (Proverbs 22:7), so financial freedom is GODLY. The BARAK blessing includes being the lender, not borrower (Deuteronomy 28:12). I am Abraham's seed, and Abraham left wealthy. My provision honors God and blesses generations.
The Father isn't mad you saved for retirement. He's the One who told Joseph to store grain for seven years. Wisdom and faith aren't opposites. He GIVES you power to get wealth, then celebrates when you steward it for His glory and your family's blessing.
