"Your marriage has drifted too far. The passion is dead and you can't resurrect it."
How it sounds in your head: We're roommates now. The spark is gone and we've settled into a functional but lifeless routine. I look at her and feel nothing. We've tried date nights and counseling, but you can't manufacture chemistry that's been dead for years.
"Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: 'Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.'"
-- Ezekiel 37:5World's teaching that feelings drive reality; emotional-based relationship theology.
Culture says passion fades naturally. Your feelings are flatlined. The romance books and marriage retreats haven't changed anything. The emotional deadness feels biological, irreversible.
Lazarus wasn't sleeping or sick—he was DEAD four days, decomposing, stinking. Everyone knew it was over. Jesus spoke ONE WORD and corpse became living man, still wrapped in grave clothes. INSTANT resurrection of what was certifiably finished.
I REFUSE the lie that my marriage is beyond resurrection. IT IS WRITTEN that God breathed on dry bones and they LIVED. What feels dead to me is resurrection material to Him. My emotions are not the arbiter of reality—His Word is. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus raised the dead with a word, and what He did in the natural, He does in marriages, intimacy, and connection. The BARAK blessing covers my covenant with my wife; it protected LIARS and DECEIVERS in their marriages, how much more does Christ's blood secure mine. I am not resigned to lifeless coexistence. I am positioned for RESURRECTION.
While you're cataloging every dead feeling, the Father is hovering over the valley of dry bones that is your marriage, about to BREATHE. He doesn't need your feelings to cooperate—He creates feelings with a word. One divine encounter will do what five years of counseling couldn't.
