"If I'd set better boundaries earlier, my relationships wouldn't be this broken."
How it sounds in your head: You read books about boundaries now and see all the ways you didn't protect yourself. Family dynamics feel unfixable because you said yes for so many years. You blame yourself for the relational mess you're in.
"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
-- Isaiah 43:18-19Religious teaching that makes boundaries the savior and your failure to implement them the reason for pain.
The boundary books describe exactly what you experienced—enmeshment, codependency, people-pleasing. If you'd known then what you know now, maybe things would be different. The damage feels done.
Peter denied Jesus three times—betrayed Him publicly at the worst moment. After resurrection, Jesus didn't make him earn restoration. He asked 'Do you love Me?' three times and INSTANTLY reinstated him: 'Feed My sheep.' Full restoration, zero penance.
I REFUSE the lie that my relational brokenness is permanent because I didn't set boundaries sooner. IT IS WRITTEN that God says, 'Behold, I will do a NEW thing, NOW it shall spring forth'—not after I fix everything, not after I earn it back, NOW. He makes roads in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives me a new heart and a new spirit. I am not defined by past relational patterns. Peter's denial didn't disqualify him—Jesus RESTORED him instantly. My relationships are not beyond His redemptive power. He resurrects dead things. I am walking in NEW relational health, NEW boundaries formed by His Spirit, NEW dynamics birthed from His grace. The former things do not define my future.
The Father is running toward you with the relational breakthrough already packaged, not waiting for you to have handled it better before. He's doing the NEW thing while you're still apologizing for the old.
