"Women shouldn't want or expect financial independence—that's not trusting your husband or God."
How it sounds in your head: You've been told your whole life that godly women depend on their husbands financially, and wanting your own resources feels like distrust or rebellion. If you're married, wanting financial autonomy feels like you're not submitting; if you're widowed or single, wanting wealth feels greedy rather than faithful. Good Christian women are supposed to be content with little and trust God through male provision.
"She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plants a vineyard."
-- Proverbs 31:16Religious teaching that makes financial dependence a spiritual virtue for women, denying them the same Abrahamic blessing available to men.
Submission sermons always included financial dependence, and the Proverbs 31 woman's business was always framed as helping her husband, never for her own sake. Wanting financial independence has been labeled as feminist rebellion against God's order.
Lydia was a seller of purple, a wealthy businesswoman in her own right—no husband mentioned, just her household and her business. God opened her heart, she was baptized, and she had resources to host Paul's entire ministry team in her own home.
I REFUSE the lie that godly women shouldn't pursue financial independence. IT IS WRITTEN that the Proverbs 31 woman bought fields from HER profits and planted vineyards. Lydia was a wealthy businesswoman. The BARAK blessing that came through Christ doesn't exclude women—IT IS WRITTEN that in Christ there is neither male nor female. I am Abraham's seed and an heir according to the PROMISE. God gave me a brain for business, wisdom for finances, and the blessing of provision not dependent on a man's success. Financial wisdom isn't rebellion—it's stewarding what the Father has given me. I am blessed in my storehouses, above and not beneath.
The Father isn't limiting provision to you through male mediators—He's running directly to you with resources, wisdom, and blessing because you're His daughter. He celebrates your stewardship and provision just like He celebrated Lydia's business and the Proverbs 31 woman's entrepreneurship.
