"Without a spouse's income or pension, I'll never afford to stop working."
How it sounds in your head: I'm staring at budgets built for two incomes, two Social Security checks, his pension that disappeared with the death certificate or divorce decree. Single women my age are statistically the poorest demographic—I've read the articles. I'm one emergency away from crisis with no financial backup, no second income to fall back on. Alone means working until I physically can't anymore.
"A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation."
-- Psalm 68:5World's statistics speak louder than covenant promises, convincing widows and single women that lack of spouse equals permanent lack of provision.
She can show the statistics—single older women have the highest poverty rates. The pension died with him, the second income disappeared, her Social Security alone doesn't cover expenses. She looks at married friends with two pensions and feels the disadvantage is insurmountable.
A widow's husband died leaving MASSIVE DEBT—creditors coming to take her sons as slaves. She had nothing but a jar of oil. Elisha had her pour it into every vessel she could borrow, and oil MULTIPLIED until she had enough to pay ALL DEBT with surplus left over. One afternoon, lifetime of debt GONE.
I REFUSE the lie that lack of spouse equals lack of provision. IT IS WRITTEN that God is a DEFENDER of widows—not a distant observer but an ACTIVE DEFENDER of my financial future. My Maker is my Husband, and He owns everything. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 4:19—God supplies ALL my need according to HIS riches in glory—not according to number of incomes in my household. I am under the BARAK blessing that doesn't divide by marital status but MULTIPLIES by covenant faithfulness. The same God who multiplied oil to pay a widow's LIFETIME debt will multiply my provision beyond what two human incomes could generate. I am NEVER alone, NEVER without provision. I receive ABUNDANT SUPPLY as a covenant daughter.
Your Father isn't calculating your provision based on your marital status—He's looking at your covenant status. While statistics say you're vulnerable, He's saying you're about to become TESTIMONY to His faithfulness that makes two incomes look like poverty by comparison.
