"Wealth would distract me from God; poverty keeps me focused on Him."
How it sounds in your head: Rich people forget God. Look at the rich young ruler—he walked away. Jesus said it's hard for the wealthy to enter the kingdom. Maybe your lack is protection. Prosperity would ruin your walk with God.
"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy."
-- 1 Timothy 6:17Religious teaching that wealth and spirituality are opposites; fear-based theology that God withholds to protect.
You've seen wealthy people fall away from faith, and Jesus' words about camels and needles seem to confirm the danger. The rich young ruler story is sobering, and you don't want to be that guy.
He was EXCEEDINGLY rich in livestock, silver, and gold, yet called the friend of God (James 2:23). His wealth didn't compete with his faith—it DEMONSTRATED God's covenant faithfulness. He walked with God AND walked in wealth.
I REFUSE the lie that wealth would destroy my faith or distance me from God. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives us RICHLY all things to ENJOY, and He commands the rich, not condemns them. Abraham was exceedingly rich and God's friend. Job was wealthiest and blameless. The BARAK blessing includes material abundance without spiritual compromise. IT IS WRITTEN in Proverbs 10:22 that the blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds NO SORROW. When the FATHER is the source, wealth doesn't distract—it DEMONSTRATES His goodness. I receive financial blessing as covenant inheritance, not spiritual threat. The Father trusts me with His resources because I'm His son, sealed by blood. I walk in abundance AND intimacy, provision AND presence. I am blessed in all things, including finances, and it draws me CLOSER to the Giver.
The Father didn't keep the prodigal poor to keep him close—He made him RICH (robe, ring, feast) to reveal His heart. Abundance in the Father's hands draws you closer, not further. He's not afraid of blessing you; He's excited to.
