"We have irreconcilable differences; some marriages just aren't meant to be."
How it sounds in your head: We're fundamentally incompatible. Fifty years proved it. We want different things, always have. Some couples just aren't a match, and ours is one of them.
"So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
-- Matthew 19:6World's humanistic lie that compatibility determines covenant, that differences justify breaking vows.
Every conversation ends in disagreement, every decision becomes conflict. The differences that seemed minor at 25 feel insurmountable at 85.
God told Hosea to marry a prostitute—maximally incompatible, she kept leaving for other lovers. God commanded him to buy her BACK from slavery and love her—impossible marriage made into prophetic picture of divine love.
I REFUSE the lie that differences justify covenant breaking. IT IS WRITTEN: What God joins, man cannot separate—not 'compatible people' but what GOD joins. Hosea married a prostitute by divine command and made it work through impossible odds. IT IS WRITTEN that God makes two into ONE flesh, not similar flesh but unified. I am in covenant under the BARAK blessing that held through every incompatibility of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob's marriages—none were perfect matches. God creates unity from diversity. He's doing it NOW.
The Father didn't join you based on compatibility scores—He joined you to display His power to make one flesh from two different people. Your differences are the stage for His unity miracle.
