"Watching friends' 50th anniversaries while still single proves God's favor is on them, not me."
How it sounds in your head: You show up to the anniversary parties with a gift and a smile, but inside you're doing the math—50 years of companionship, partnership, memories you don't have. Their children toast them, grandchildren perform, and you wonder why God wrote that story for them but not for you. It feels like proof of who He loves more.
"He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?"
-- Romans 8:32Enemy's comparison trap mixed with religious lie that circumstances prove God's favor or disfavor.
The evidence looks overwhelming—they have the tangible blessing (marriage, family, legacy), and you have the absence of it. If God is good and gives good gifts, the lack of this specific gift feels like He passed you over. Their 50th anniversary looks like 50 years of answered prayer you never received.
John was 'the disciple whom Jesus loved,' leaned on Jesus' chest at the Last Supper, was trusted with Mary at the cross, received the Revelation, and outlived all the other apostles—yet Scripture never records him marrying. God's favor on him was UNDENIABLE, and singleness didn't diminish it.
I REFUSE the lie that marriage proves God's favor. IT IS WRITTEN: He who gave His Son freely gives me ALL things, and that cross is the measure of His love for ME. Their 50th anniversary doesn't diminish my story—it's a different chapter in the same book of grace. IT IS WRITTEN: I am blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ, lacking no good thing. God's favor on my life isn't proven by relationship status but by SONSHIP. I walk in the BARAK blessing where the Lord commands blessing on my life—not because I earned it but because of COVENANT. The same God who called Abraham 'friend,' who favored Daniel in exile, who loved John without John marrying—He looks at ME with delight. My life is dripping with favor; it just looks different than theirs.
The Father isn't throwing anniversary parties for some children while ignoring others—He's throwing a party over YOU every single day, celebrating the unique story He's written that required your exact path. He's been saving the best wine for last, and your story isn't over; it's still unfolding in ways that will make heaven erupt in worship.
