"Wanting nice things makes me greedy and selfish like rich people who ignore the poor."
How it sounds in your head: I see kids at school with new phones and cool stuff and I want that too, but then I feel bad. Maybe wanting those things means I'm becoming shallow and materialistic. Good Christians are supposed to be content with nothing, right?
"Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, 'Let the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.'"
-- Psalm 35:27Religion taught that poverty equals holiness and desire equals sin, making God anti-blessing.
He sees church people criticize wealth while Jesus talked about helping the poor. His parents might struggle financially and say 'we should be grateful for what we have,' making desire feel like betrayal.
Solomon asked for wisdom to lead well, not selfish gain. God was SO PLEASED He gave him wisdom PLUS riches and honor he DIDN'T ask for—more than any king ever. God LOVES adding abundance to pure hearts.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting abundance makes me greedy! IT IS WRITTEN that God has PLEASURE in my prosperity. I am Abraham's seed through Christ, and the BARAK blessing is mine by covenant, not behavior. My Father RUNS toward me with the robe, ring, and fattened calf. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives me richly ALL THINGS to enjoy. I receive without guilt because Jesus already paid it ALL. My desires for good things come FROM the Father's generous heart beating in me!
The Father isn't frowning when you want nice things—He's smiling, planning ways to exceed what you imagined. He gave Solomon MORE than he asked because generosity is who God IS, and you're His beloved son.
