"Tithing is just how churches manipulate poor people—it's a prosperity gospel scam."
How it sounds in your head: You've seen the televangelists with private jets begging for widow's donations. You've watched churches build million-dollar buildings while members struggle. This whole 'sow a seed' thing is just spiritual manipulation to fund someone else's lifestyle. You're too old and too smart to fall for that scam.
"But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully."
-- 2 Corinthians 9:6Source: Enemy—using legitimate examples of abuse to poison the entire biblical principle, throwing out God's multiplication system because some people misused it.
The abuse is real—prosperity preachers have exploited vulnerable people, and you've seen churches prioritize buildings over benevolence. Conflating all teaching on giving with those abuses feels like justified discernment protecting you from exploitation.
The Philippian believers gave to Paul out of 'deep poverty' (2 Cor 8:2)—they were broke themselves but sowed into ministry anyway. Paul said their gift was 'fruit that abounds to your account,' and immediately declared 'my God shall supply ALL your need according to His riches in glory'—their sacrificial seed opened unlimited supply.
I REFUSE the lie that biblical giving is manipulation. IT IS WRITTEN that sowing and reaping is God's ordained multiplication system—abuse by some doesn't nullify truth for all! I will not let the enemy use televangelist scandals to rob me of kingdom economics. The BARAK blessing operated long before TV preachers existed, and it operates in MY life because I'm Abraham's seed. IT IS WRITTEN that God loves a cheerful giver and is ABLE to make all grace abound toward me. I give to God, not to man's agenda, and HE is my rewarder. My generosity isn't funding scams—it's activating heaven's windows!
Your Father doesn't lump you in with those who were exploited or those who exploited—He sees YOUR heart and responds to YOUR trust. Like the father who gave the prodigal full authority despite the son's history of foolish financial decisions, God doesn't withhold blessing because someone else mishandled the message—He pours out abundance on those who simply trust HIM.
