"This sickness is just my cross to bear; I need to surrender to God's will."
How it sounds in your head: Paul had his thorn in the flesh. Job had his suffering. Maybe this is my appointed suffering for His glory. Fighting against it might be fighting against God's sovereign plan. I need to have the maturity to accept what God has allowed and find peace in surrender rather than demanding my own way.
"For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil."
-- 1 John 3:8Religious misinterpretation of Scripture making disease 'God's will,' confusing submission to God with passivity toward the enemy.
She's been taught that mature faith means accepting suffering without complaint, and resistant believers are characterized as immature or demanding. Calling sickness 'her cross' gives meaning to meaningless suffering and makes surrender feel spiritual rather than defeated.
Paul was bitten by a deadly viper—the locals expected him to swell up and die from the poison. Paul simply shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no harm. He didn't 'accept it as God's will' or 'find the lesson in the snakebite'—he RESISTED the attack and experienced INSTANT protection. Then he went and healed everyone sick on the island, demonstrating that God's will is ALWAYS healing, never sickness.
I REFUSE the lie that this sickness is my cross to bear or God's sovereign will for me. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus was manifested to DESTROY the works of the devil, and sickness is the devil's work. Jesus healed ALL who came to Him—He never once said, 'This disease is your cross; carry it for My glory.' My cross is dying to SELF-WILL, not dying from DISEASE. IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I WAS healed—past tense, finished work at the cross. Surrender to God means agreeing with HEAVEN'S reality, which declares HEALING as my inheritance. Paul shook off the viper and suffered no harm—that's my model, not passive acceptance. I am under the BARAK blessing that declares me BLESSED in my body, the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. I RESIST sickness as I resist the devil, and I RECEIVE healing as my covenant right!
Your Father isn't asking you to nobly accept disease as 'your cross'—He sent Jesus to carry THE cross so you could walk in FREEDOM from every curse, including sickness. Like Paul who shook the deadly viper into the fire without a second thought, He's inviting you to resist the attack and walk in the instant protection and healing that's your inheritance, because His will has always been LIFE, not death, HEALING, not disease.
