"This pain is my thorn in the flesh—something I have to carry for life."
How it sounds in your head: Paul had his thorn. Maybe this is mine. Maybe God's keeping me humble through suffering. Maybe if I had enough faith it would go away, but since it hasn't, this must be God's plan for me.
"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us."
-- Galatians 3:13Religious misinterpretation of Paul's thorn weaponized to make believers accept enemy attacks as divine assignments.
It's a common sermon point—'everyone has their thorn'—that makes chronic suffering seem spiritually normal. It provides theological justification for unanswered prayer without questioning the premise.
Sick with a fever, lying in bed. Jesus came to Peter's house, SAW her, touched her hand, and IMMEDIATELY the fever left. She got up and served them—instant from sick to serving. No process, no 'carry your thorn.'
I REFUSE the lie that my pain is God's gift to keep me humble. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Christ redeemed us from the curse'—and Deuteronomy 28 lists sickness AS the curse. Jesus wore the THORNS so I wouldn't have to carry one for life. IT IS WRITTEN: 'By His stripes you were healed'—finished work, past tense. Paul's thorn was a messenger of SATAN, not a gift from God. I reject the religious lie that baptizes enemy attacks as divine assignments. I'm redeemed from the curse. Period.
The Father didn't spare His Son from the cross so you could carry a 'thorn' forever. He CRUSHED Jesus under the curse so you could walk FREE. He's not interested in keeping you humble through pain—He's interested in you walking in resurrection power.
