"This guilt is just who I am now; I can't imagine life without it."
How it sounds in your head: It's been so long that I don't even remember what it felt like before. The guilt is like background noise—I don't think it'll ever go away. Maybe this is just my life now.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Source: Long-term condemnation creating false identity, making guilt feel like personality rather than prison.
Time has normalized the weight. The guilt has become so familiar that freedom feels foreign and unimaginable.
The man lived in tombs, cutting himself, screaming day and night, completely possessed and hopeless. Everyone had given up on him—chains couldn't hold him. One encounter with Jesus and he was instantly 'clothed and in his right mind.' From naked and tormented to clothed and peaceful in moments. Jesus then sent him as a missionary.
I REFUSE the lie that guilt is my identity. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a NEW creation in Christ—old things have PASSED AWAY. Guilt is not who I am; it is a lie I have tolerated. I am not defined by my past or by years of condemnation. IT IS WRITTEN that all things have become NEW. I stand in the BARAK blessing—blessed in my identity, blessed in my future, blessed because of covenant, not because of history. I am clothed in righteousness, seated with Christ, and empowered by the Spirit. Guilt is evicted. My identity is SON.
The Father doesn't see you as 'guilty guy who got forgiven'—He sees you as a brand-new creation who never existed before this moment, with a future unhindered by your past. He's not trying to fix the old you; He already made a new you.
