"This autoimmune disease is my thorn in the flesh that keeps me humble."
How it sounds in your head: Paul had his thorn and God said His grace was sufficient—maybe this disease is mine. Perhaps God won't remove it because I need it to stay humble and dependent. Maybe asking for healing is asking for the wrong thing.
"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree')."
-- Galatians 3:13Source: Misinterpretation of 2 Corinthians 12:7 used by religion to justify unanswered prayer and normalize sickness among believers.
She's heard this verse quoted dozens of times to explain why godly people stay sick, and it provides a theological framework for disappointment. It feels humble and spiritual to accept suffering rather than 'demand' healing.
God sent Isaiah to tell Hezekiah, 'Set your house in order, for you shall DIE and not live'—a prophet declared his death as settled. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed, and before Isaiah left the courtyard, God sent him BACK with a different message: 'I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; I will heal you. I will add fifteen years to your life.' God CHANGED HIS MIND in minutes.
I REFUSE the lie that my autoimmune disease is God's thorn to keep me humble. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ redeemed me from the CURSE of the law, and sickness is listed under that curse in Deuteronomy 28. My Father didn't give me disease—He gave me His Son who CARRIED disease to the cross. IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I WAS healed, and my body is not God's humility classroom. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing covered even proud Jacob and boastful Abraham with protection and health. Humility comes from the Holy Spirit, not from a malfunctioning immune system. I receive divine health NOW because Jesus already paid for it.
The Father isn't withholding healing to manage your pride—He's running toward you with the robe of righteousness that has no disease in it. While you're still wondering if you're humble enough, He's already declaring you healed because of Jesus, not because of your character development.
