"They go on vacation twice a year and I can't remember our last real trip."
How it sounds in your head: It's another beach album. Another European adventure. Another 'much needed getaway.' You haven't had a vacation in three years unless you count visiting family where you sleep on an air mattress. Your last trip was a staycation where you pretended your backyard was interesting. You're stuck while everyone else is living.
"And also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God."
-- Ecclesiastes 3:13Enemy comparison lie mixing covetousness with religious works-righteousness (God blesses the deserving with travel).
Instagram is a highlight reel of everyone else's adventures while you're just trying to make it to Friday. The gap between their experiences and yours feels like proof you're on the outside of God's blessing looking in.
During a drought and famine, God sent Elijah to hide by a brook in the wilderness—not exactly a resort destination. Ravens brought him bread and meat every morning and evening, and he drank from the brook—God provided a supernatural retreat in the most unlikely place.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm missing out because I can't afford frequent vacations. IT IS WRITTEN that enjoying life is the GIFT of God—not the achievement of high earners. My joy isn't determined by travel budget or passport stamps. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out—whether I'm going out to Target or Tanzania, the blessing is the same. I am under the BARAK blessing that made deserts bloom and brought water from rocks. The God who fed Elijah by ravens in the wilderness and made manna appear for millions isn't limited by my vacation fund. He gives me richly ALL THINGS to enjoy, and that starts now, right where I am.
The Father doesn't measure your life by vacation frequency—He's been planning your suddenly moment when provision breaks through so unexpectedly you'll leave like the Israelites left Egypt: with more than enough, so fast you didn't have time to pack properly. Until then, He's bringing you ravens-with-bread moments in your ordinary that their paid excursions can't touch.
