"Their wealth proves God's favor. My financial struggle proves I lack His blessing."
How it sounds in your head: Prosperity is a sign of God's blessing—everyone knows that. Their success is proof God is with them. My struggle is proof I'm somehow outside His favor. The evidence is undeniable.
"They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented—of whom the world was not worthy."
-- Hebrews 11:37-38Religious prosperity gospel lie that equates current financial status with God's approval rather than covenant position.
Deuteronomy 28 blessings include financial prosperity, and prosperity preachers confirm wealth equals favor. Their abundance versus his lack appears to be theological proof of unequal standing.
The rich man dressed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury daily. Lazarus was a sick beggar covered in sores. Both died. The rich man went to torment, Lazarus to Abraham's bosom. Wealth proved nothing about eternal favor.
I REFUSE the lie that current wealth measures God's favor. IT IS WRITTEN that faith heroes were destitute yet the world wasn't worthy of them. My Father's favor isn't proven by my bank balance but by my position in Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. The BARAK blessing sometimes shows up as sudden wealth, sometimes as protection in poverty, always as covenant faithfulness. Paul knew abundance and lack—same favor, different seasons. My struggle doesn't prove lack of blessing. My covenant proves permanent favor regardless of current account balance.
Your Father's approval of you isn't measured by your financial statement. He proved His favor by sending Jesus while you were still a sinner—that's permanent favor that doesn't fluctuate with market conditions.
