"The suffering from this disease is building Christ-like character in me."
How it sounds in your head: Romans 5 says suffering produces perseverance, character, hope. Maybe this cancer is God's tool to make me more like Jesus. The pastor said trials refine us like gold in fire. I shouldn't resist what God is using to sanctify me. Complaining would be rejecting His character-building process.
"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him."
-- Acts 10:38Religion: Suffering glorified as God's primary sanctification method, making Him the author of disease for character development.
Misapplied Romans 5:3-5 and 1 Peter 1:7 create theology where God authors suffering. Sincere desire for Christlikeness twisted into acceptance of disease as divine pedagogy.
Disciples asked if the man's blindness was caused by his sin or his parents' sin—Jesus said 'NEITHER, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.' Jesus IMMEDIATELY healed him—the work of God was HEALING, not prolonged suffering for character.
I REFUSE the lie that Jesus authors disease to build my character. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Jesus healed ALL who were oppressed by the devil'—sickness is demonic oppression, not divine instruction. IT IS WRITTEN: 'We all, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed'—transformation comes from BEHOLDING Jesus, not enduring disease. The blind man wasn't told his suffering built character—Jesus IMMEDIATELY healed him to reveal God's works. I behold Jesus, the Healer, and am transformed into His image. The BARAK blessing of Abraham includes 'the LORD will take away all sickness'—I walk in that covenant NOW.
The Father isn't using cancer as a character seminar—He sent Jesus to destroy the works of the devil, and your disease is the devil's work. While you're trying to find spiritual meaning in suffering, He's grieving that you're crediting Him with what He died to remove, longing to reveal His works through your HEALING, not your endurance of sickness.
