"The spectacular miracles were to establish the early church; now we have the Bible."
How it sounds in your head: I've been taught that miracles authenticated the apostles' message before Scripture was complete. Now that we have the full Bible, we don't need signs and wonders - we have God's written word. Seeking miracles seems almost disrespectful to Scripture's sufficiency.
"And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
-- Mark 16:17-18Source: religion - Reformed cessationist teaching that devalues Holy Spirit's present activity to elevate Scripture alone.
Her church emphasizes verse-by-verse teaching and warns against 'charismatic excess.' Pastors she respects say miracle-seeking is immature faith compared to deep Bible study, making her feel that expecting healing is somehow less spiritual than accepting suffering.
He wasn't an apostle, just 'a certain disciple' in Damascus. God sent him to pray for Saul's blindness, and he was terrified because Saul had been murdering Christians. He went anyway, laid hands on Saul, and IMMEDIATELY scales fell from Saul's eyes and he could see - an ordinary believer releasing extraordinary healing.
I REFUSE the lie that miracles ended when the Bible was completed. IT IS WRITTEN: Mark 16:17-18 - these signs WILL FOLLOW those who believe, and I BELIEVE. The Word and the Spirit are partners, not replacements. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, forever - not was powerful, IS powerful. IT IS WRITTEN: greater works will I do because He went to the Father. I am a branch in the Vine, and miracle-working sap flows through me AUTOMATICALLY. The BARAK blessing that protected murderers like Jacob's sons and raised dead sons like the widow of Zarephath's child is MINE by covenant. I lay hands on the sick and they recover because Jesus said so.
The Father gave you His Word AND His Spirit - both fully active, both fully yours. He's not rationing His power because you own a Bible; He's multiplying it because you're His daughter, and the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you RIGHT NOW.
