"The market downturn is God punishing me for greed"
How it sounds in your head: You got too focused on building wealth. You made money an idol. Now God is teaching you a lesson by taking it away. You should have been more generous, more focused on Kingdom things instead of retirement accounts.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning."
-- James 1:17Religion's lie that God authors financial loss as punishment for wrong motives, making Him the source of curse.
Sermons about rich young rulers and camels through needles echo in your mind. You did check your portfolio obsessively. You did plan for comfortable retirement. Maybe you weren't generous enough, and this feels like cosmic correction.
After Satan (NOT God) destroyed Job's wealth, health, and family, God turned his captivity in ONE DAY and gave him DOUBLE everything he lost. The restoration was instant and massive, proving God's heart is RESTORATION, not punishment.
I REFUSE the lie that financial loss comes from my Father's hand as punishment. IT IS WRITTEN that every good gift comes from the Father, with NO VARIATION or shadow of turning. He gives GOOD, always. The thief comes to steal—Jesus comes to give ABUNDANT LIFE. God turned Job's captivity in ONE DAY and DOUBLED everything. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in my storehouses and the Lord COMMANDS blessing, not curse. I am under GRACE, not law. Christ redeemed me from the CURSE, which includes financial devastation. I receive restoration, not punishment.
Your Father isn't punishing your portfolio to teach you contentment—He's the God who blessed Abraham with massive wealth, who made Solomon the richest man on earth, who gave Job DOUBLE after loss. He doesn't use poverty as pedagogy. He runs toward you with abundance because that's who He IS.
