"The family money destroyed us, so I'm better off with nothing than cursed with wealth."

How it sounds in your head: You've seen what money does—it tore the family apart, created addiction, funded destruction. Every wealthy relative is miserable. Poverty feels safer, holier, less dangerous. Maybe God is protecting you BY withholding.

1 Timothy 6:17

"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy."

-- 1 Timothy 6:17
Enemy whispers: Wealth destroyed your family, so poverty is God's protection. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: 1 Timothy 6:17 - 'God gives us richly all things to enjoy.' Money isn't the problem—idolatry of money is. God doesn't protect you BY poverty; He blesses you WITH provision and teaches you to enjoy it rightly. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were WEALTHY and blessed. The issue wasn't their wealth—it was their worship.
Quick Truth: LIE: Family money destroyed us—poverty is safer. TRUTH: God gives richly all things to enjoy. Money isn't evil. (1 Timothy 6:17)

Enemy twisting money into an evil force and convincing you that poverty is spiritual protection rather than seeing wealth as a neutral tool blessed by God.

Why this feels true:

The evidence is overwhelming—you literally watched family wealth fund divorces, addictions, entitlement, and relational destruction. Every wealthy family member's life looks like a cautionary tale.

Job 42:10-12
Job

Job's first round of wealth existed while his children were described as feasting and possibly foolish—his wealth didn't protect them from calamity. God gave him DOUBLE his former possessions in restoration—proving that wealth isn't the curse, and God trusts His people with abundance without it destroying them.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that wealth is a curse and poverty is protection! IT IS WRITTEN that God gives us richly all things to ENJOY—He's not a stingy Father hoarding provision to keep me safe from myself. Money isn't evil; the LOVE of money is. Job received DOUBLE his former possessions. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were wealthy and blessed. IT IS WRITTEN that the BARAK blessing includes being blessed in my storehouses, lending and not borrowing, the head and not the tail. I AM trusted by my Father with abundance because He's teaching me to steward with joy, not fear. Wealth flows TO me and THROUGH me for Kingdom purposes!

But God actually:

Your Father hears you equating His blessing with a curse and it breaks His heart—He's not protecting you BY poverty; He's trying to bless you WITH provision that you'll steward differently than those who hurt you. He trusts you with the inheritance your family misused because you're connected to a different source.
