"The betrayal happened because I wasn't praying or reading my Bible enough."
How it sounds in your head: If you'd been more spiritually disciplined, maybe God would have protected you. You'd been slacking on quiet times, missing church sometimes, not praying like you used to. Spiritually strong people don't get blindsided like this. Your lack of devotion left you vulnerable.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ."
-- Ephesians 1:3Religion makes protection transactional—do spiritual disciplines, earn divine defense—turning God into a vending machine instead of a Father.
You genuinely weren't as consistent with spiritual practices before the betrayal, and hindsight makes it look like cause-and-effect. It gives your brain a sense of control: fix disciplines, prevent pain.
Disciples asked Jesus if the man's blindness was caused by HIS sin or his PARENTS' sin—classic religious thinking that suffering equals spiritual failure. Jesus said, 'NEITHER—this happened so God's works could be displayed.' Sometimes bad things happen not because you failed spiritually, but so GOD can show His power.
I REFUSE the lie that my devotional performance determines God's protection. IT IS WRITTEN that I have been blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ—not because I earned it, but because I'm IN HIM. My security does NOT rise and fall with my quiet time consistency. The barak blessing over Abraham protected him even when HE was lying to kings—my protection is based on COVENANT, not on my spiritual report card. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. I declare I am FULLY loved, FULLY protected, and FULLY blessed—not because of my disciplines, but because of HIS faithfulness. I am righteous by GIFT, not by grind.
The Father is holding you, saying, 'I don't protect you MORE when you read your Bible and LESS when you don't—I protect you because you're MINE.' He's not waiting for better devotional habits; He's covering you RIGHT NOW with the same love He had when you were still a sinner.
