"Taking sleep medication means I'm not resting in God's peace"
How it sounds in your head: I've read 'I will both lie down in peace and sleep' so many times. But without Ambien, I'm awake until 3am with racing thoughts. Why isn't God's peace enough? What's wrong with my faith?
"The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep."
-- Ecclesiastes 5:12Misapplication of Psalm 4:8 as performance metric rather than covenant reality
She hears about 'supernatural rest' while exhaustion compounds her anxiety. The bottle on her nightstand feels like a nightly reminder that she's not accessing something other Christians seem to have.
After Elijah's greatest spiritual victory, he crashed into suicidal depression. God's response wasn't rebuke—it was SLEEP and FOOD. An angel physically provided sustenance and let him sleep, then did it AGAIN before addressing anything spiritual.
I REFUSE the lie that sleep medication equals lack of peace. IT IS WRITTEN that Elijah, after calling down fire from heaven, needed supernatural rest through natural means—sleep and food provided by an angel. My Ambien is not failure to rest in God—it's receiving the grace God provided through sleep science. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus Himself needed natural sleep in a physical body. I am not less spiritual for helping my brain achieve the rest God designed it to need. The BARAK blessing includes rest, and whether that arrives miraculously or through medication, it's still Father's provision.
Father sees your exhaustion and doesn't see a peace problem—He sees a brain that needs help shutting down at night. He's not disappointed you take sleep medication; He's the One who gave humans the knowledge to create it as grace for you.
