"Taking psychiatric medication means I'm relying on man's wisdom instead of God's power."
How it sounds in your head: The Bible says God hasn't given me a spirit of fear. If I take anxiety meds or mood stabilizers, I'm choosing psychiatry over Scripture. I should be able to renew my mind without pills.
"Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you."
-- Colossians 4:14Religion creates false dichotomy between God's power and medical science, particularly stigmatizing mental health treatment as unspiritual.
You've been taught that the mind is a spiritual battlefield and pills are a worldly substitute for spiritual warfare. Taking psychiatric medication feels like admitting defeat in the spiritual realm or trusting science over God.
Luke the physician traveled with Paul, who performed miracles. Paul called him 'beloved.' If medical practice was inferior to faith or in conflict with God's power, Paul wouldn't have kept a doctor on his team. God uses both.
I REFUSE the lie that psychiatric medication means I'm choosing man over God. IT IS WRITTEN that Luke the beloved PHYSICIAN traveled with miracle-working Paul. God invented neurotransmitters, serotonin, and dopamine. Medication is His provision. IT IS WRITTEN that I have the mind of Christ, and stewarding that mind with medical help is wisdom, not weakness. The BARAK blessing covers my mental health. I am the righteousness of God, and my brain chemistry doesn't change that. I receive treatment without shame because God designed both the brain and the medicine.
The Father isn't disappointed you're seeing a psychiatrist—He sent them. He's not waiting for you to white-knuckle your way to mental health; He's offering help through every avenue, and He's proud of you for taking it.
