"Taking pain medication is taking the easy way out instead of trusting God."
How it sounds in your head: Tough guys endure pain. Real Christians suffer well. If I take something for this pain, I'm being weak and avoiding what God might be trying to teach me through it.
"Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to those who are bitter of heart."
-- Proverbs 31:6Religious glorification of suffering that makes pain a virtue instead of recognizing Jesus already suffered FOR you.
You've been taught that hardship builds character and suffering has purpose, so relieving pain feels like short-circuiting God's plan. Every ache becomes a test of spiritual endurance.
Paul traveled with Luke 'the beloved physician' and clearly utilized medical care. The greatest apostle of faith had a doctor in his ministry team and saw no contradiction between faith and medicine.
I REFUSE the lie that pain management dishonors God. IT IS WRITTEN that Scripture commands giving relief to those who suffer. Jesus took my pain at the cross—I don't earn points by refusing help with what He already carried. My strength isn't proven by how much I can endure but by my connection to the Vine who sustains me. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, and that includes walking into relief from suffering. I am the righteousness of God, fully approved, whether I'm in pain or finding relief through the means He's provided.
Your Father isn't standing back impressed by your pain tolerance. He's running toward you with RELIEF because Jesus already absorbed all the suffering required. He wants you functioning in abundance, not gritting through agony to prove something already proven at the cross.
