"Taking medication for mental health is relying on the world instead of God."
How it sounds in your head: You've heard the testimonies—'I stopped my meds and just trusted God.' You wonder if taking antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds is a lack of faith. Maybe you're choosing pharmacology over prayer. Maybe real Christians don't need chemical help.
"Jesus answered them, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.'"
-- Luke 5:31Source: Religion—false dichotomy between medical intervention and spiritual faith, ignoring God gives wisdom to create medicine.
Church culture often elevates 'faith healing' stories while quietly shaming those who need ongoing medical care. You feel like you're taking the 'worldly' path instead of the 'faith' path.
Timothy had frequent stomach problems. Paul, the apostle of faith who raised the dead, didn't say 'just pray harder'—he said 'Stop drinking only water, and use a little WINE because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.' He prescribed a medicinal remedy without shame.
I REFUSE the lie that medication is unfaithful. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus affirmed doctors for the sick—medical help is not worldly, it's wisdom. I am Abraham's seed, blessed under the BARAK covenant with access to EVERY provision—including medicine. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 Timothy 5:23 that Paul prescribed physical remedies without shame. I reject the false choice between faith and medicine. God invented brain chemistry; He provides tools to restore it. I receive medication, therapy, prayer, community—ALL as gifts from the Father who provides EVERY good thing. I am not less spiritual for taking care of my body and mind.
The Father isn't disappointed that you need help—He's the One who gave doctors and pharmacologists the wisdom to create what you need. He's whispering: 'Son, I made your brain. I know what it needs. Take the help I've provided without shame.'
