"Taking medication for cholesterol or blood pressure shows I don't trust God's protection."
How it sounds in your head: My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Shouldn't God's presence be enough to keep my heart healthy? Maybe I'm living in fear instead of faith by taking these preventative medications.
"A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; the simple pass on and are punished."
-- Proverbs 27:12Religion shamed preventative care as fear-based living, making wisdom about stewarding health seem like distrust of God's protection.
Church teaching about 'walking by faith not by sight' makes preventative medication feel like insurance against God's failure. At her age, friends are dying from heart issues, creating pressure to prove trust by refusing medical prevention.
God revealed coming famine, and Joseph's response was PREPARATION—storing grain during abundance for future lack. God didn't rebuke him for 'not trusting' that He'd provide daily manna—God GAVE the dream specifically so Joseph would PREVENT disaster through wisdom.
I REFUSE the lie that preventative medication equals fear. IT IS WRITTEN that prudent people foresee potential problems and prepare—it's called WISDOM, not distrust. Joseph stored grain for future famine because God gave him foreknowledge to PREVENT disaster. My cholesterol and blood pressure medications are wise stewardship of the body God gave me. IT IS WRITTEN in Proverbs 27:12 that foresight is prudent. I trust God AND use medical wisdom He provides. The BARAK blessing includes protection, health, and wisdom to steward my body well.
Your Father doesn't condemn your preventative medications as doubt. He's the one who gave you the test results showing you needed them, running toward you with wisdom to protect your heart—because stewarding the body He gave you isn't fear; it's LOVE responding to His provision.
