"Stepping back from ministry means I'm wasting my gifts and calling."
How it sounds in your head: God gave you these gifts for a reason. You're talented at this. People have told you you're anointed. If you step back, you're burying your talent like the servant in the parable. You're wasting what He invested in you. He'll give your opportunity to someone more faithful.
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"
-- Psalm 46:10Source: Religion's productivity gospel - gifts valued over intimacy, output over identity.
She's been affirmed for her ministry abilities and stepping back feels like rejecting God's gifts. Rest feels like wasted potential.
Martha was serving, working, doing all the ministry tasks while Mary just sat at Jesus's feet doing "nothing productive." When Martha complained, Jesus didn't commend the worker - He defended the worshiper, saying Mary chose what was BETTER and it wouldn't be taken from her.
I REFUSE the lie that stepping back wastes my gifts. IT IS WRITTEN to be STILL and know that He is God - sometimes stillness is the assignment. My gifts aren't the source of my value; they're the OVERFLOW of relationship. I am NOT what I do; I'm WHO I AM in Christ - beloved daughter, seated in heavenly places, blessed with the BARAK blessing that doesn't fluctuate with my productivity. IT IS WRITTEN that Mary chose the better part by SITTING, not serving - intimacy over activity, presence over performance. I trust that my calling survives my rest and my gifts remain even when I'm still.
The Father isn't wringing His hands worried you're wasting potential. He's patting the seat next to Him, saying "Come sit with Me. Your doing flows from being, not the other way around. I'm not impressed with your résumé - I'm delighted by your presence."
