"If I don't have a dramatic calling story, maybe I was never really called in the first place."
How it sounds in your head: Other leaders talk about hearing God's audible voice or having a Damascus Road moment. You just... felt like you should help with youth group. Maybe you made it up. Maybe you were never actually called.
"And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice."
-- 1 Kings 19:12Religion: The lie that God only speaks in lightning bolts rather than in still, small voices and quiet invitations.
You hear testimonies of dramatic calls and yours feels mundane by comparison. When things get hard, you question whether you were ever really supposed to be here.
Amos wasn't a prophet or a prophet's son—he was a shepherd and fig farmer. God just TOOK him from following the flock and said, 'Go prophesy to My people.' No drama, no burning bush, just a quiet call that changed nations.
I REFUSE the lie that my quiet call is less valid than someone's dramatic one. IT IS WRITTEN that God was in the STILL SMALL VOICE, not the earthquake or fire—most calls are quiet. Amos was just a farmer when God TOOK him and made him a prophet with no fanfare. IT IS WRITTEN that God's gifts and calling are IRREVOCABLE—He doesn't take back what He gives, even when I doubt. The BARAK blessing is on me by COVENANT, not by the volume of my call. I step into CONFIDENCE in my quiet yes. God doesn't need theatrics to confirm His call—He needs availability.
The Father isn't comparing your call to anyone else's—He's whispering, 'I called you in the way you needed to hear Me, and it's just as real.' He doesn't measure validity by decibels. Your quiet yes was heard in heaven and written in His book.
