"Spiritual warfare is too dangerous for someone at my level of maturity."
How it sounds in your head: I've heard stories of people getting into spiritual warfare and things getting worse—oppression, attacks on their family, demonic manifestations. Maybe that's for seasoned warriors, not someone like me who's still struggling with basics. What if I provoke something I can't handle?
"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."
-- James 4:7Source: religious fear-mongering presenting demons as dangerous equals requiring special qualification to confront rather than defeated foes under your feet.
He's heard the horror stories—the guy who did deliverance and his house got attacked, the woman who prayed against territorial spirits and ended up in spiritual oppression. It feels safer to stay out of it than risk provoking powers he's not ready for.
Seven sons tried to cast out demons using Jesus' name without relationship with Jesus—they got beaten and fled naked. Meanwhile, ordinary believers in Ephesus cast out demons with authority because they were IN CHRIST. The difference wasn't maturity level but covenant connection.
I REFUSE the lie that spiritual warfare is too dangerous for me. IT IS WRITTEN that when I resist the devil, HE WILL FLEE from me (James 4:7). I am not in danger from defeated foes who must bow to Jesus' name. IT IS WRITTEN that nothing shall by any means hurt me because Jesus gave me authority over ALL the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). The enemy doesn't run from my maturity—he runs from Christ in me. I am seated with Christ far above all principalities and powers (Ephesians 1:20-21). The BARAK blessing makes me untouchable—the same protection that surrounded murderers and liars surrounds me because I'm in covenant. I don't need to be 'ready'—I'm already positioned in victory. Every demon in hell is terrified of a son who knows who he is.
The Father isn't protecting demons from you until you're mature enough—He's already placed every enemy under your feet and is watching with delight as you realize the enemy's threats are empty roars from a defanged lion. Right now, He's celebrating that His son is discovering the authority he's carried all along.
