"Sleep medication means I've failed spiritually—real faith wouldn't need pharmaceutical help."
How it sounds in your head: Christians who really trust God don't need Ambien. If my faith were stronger, I'd sleep naturally. Taking medication feels like admitting God isn't enough, that I need worldly solutions because my prayers don't work. I'm weak. I'm failing.
"Jesus answered and said to them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.'"
-- Luke 5:31Religion: Creates false dichotomy between medical help and faith, adding guilt to suffering and calling dependence on creation unfaithful.
The prayer warriors at church don't take sleep meds—they 'cast their cares.' The verse says 'by His stripes you are healed,' not 'by His stripes and pills.' Using medication feels like evidence that your faith is insufficient.
Deathly ill, given a death sentence—Hezekiah prayed and God HEALED him. But the METHOD? Isaiah applied a lump of FIGS to the boil. Divine healing THROUGH medicinal application, not instead of it. God added fifteen years through figs and faith TOGETHER.
I REFUSE the lie that medication negates faith. IT IS WRITTEN that the sick need physicians—Jesus AFFIRMED medical help. Hezekiah got fifteen extra YEARS through prayer AND a fig poultice—God healed THROUGH medicine, not instead of it. Luke the Gospel-writer was a DOCTOR. Using tools God created isn't weakness. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28:8 that the Lord commands blessing on all I set my hand to—that includes medication if I choose it, without guilt. The BARAK isn't suspended because I take Ambien. I receive help from every stream my Father provides—medical, supernatural, natural—ALL are His grace. I am not failing. I am RECEIVING.
Your Father invented the plants that make your medication—He's not disappointed you're using His provision. He healed Hezekiah through figs and prayer TOGETHER, and He's giving you permission to receive help from every stream He offers without guilt.
