"Rich people can't enter heaven, so financial success and spiritual health are incompatible."
How it sounds in your head: Jesus said it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. Every promotion or raise feels like a spiritual step backward. Success in career means failure in faith.
"But Jesus looked at them and said to them, 'With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"
-- Matthew 19:26Religion isolated one statement about the rich young ruler's specific heart issue and made it a universal condemnation of wealth.
Every wealthy person in the Bible seems to have a disclaimer. The church celebrates missionaries in poverty but seems suspicious of businessmen in the pews.
Job was the richest man in the East, lost everything, and God restored DOUBLE what he had before. God didn't restore him to modest provision - He made him twice as wealthy, calling Job 'blameless and upright' both before and after the wealth.
I REFUSE the lie that financial success and spiritual health are incompatible. IT IS WRITTEN that with God all things are possible, including being both wealthy and righteous. The issue Jesus addressed was TRUST in riches, not riches themselves. IT IS WRITTEN to trust not in uncertain riches but in the living God who gives me richly all things to ENJOY. Abraham, Job, Solomon, and Joseph of Arimathea were wealthy and righteous. The BARAK blessing includes financial abundance. I receive both provision and righteousness as gifts through Christ.
Your Father isn't threatened by your success - He commanded blessing on your storehouses and made you the head, not the tail. He's running toward you with Job's double restoration, not because you stayed poor but because you're His beloved son in whom He is well pleased.
