"Religion is just rules and guilt - if I get involved I'll lose my freedom and joy."
How it sounds in your head: Church people can't watch certain shows, listen to certain music, wear certain things, go certain places. Everything fun is off-limits. If I fully commit, I'll become one of those joyless people posting Bible verses while judging everyone.
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."
-- Galatians 5:1Source: Religion spirit that replaces relationship with rules and freedom with fear, presenting a version of Christianity Jesus never taught.
She's watched 'committed Christians' slowly become isolated, judgmental, and joyless - cutting off friends, limiting experiences, existing in a bubble. The pattern looks like progressive restriction, not abundant life.
Zacchaeus was a crooked tax collector throwing parties with stolen money. Jesus invited HIMSELF to Zacchaeus' house for dinner - didn't demand he clean up first, make restitution, or prove anything. One encounter with LOVE, and Zacchaeus CHOSE to give back fourfold. Love transformed him; rules never could have.
I REFUSE the lie that following Jesus means losing freedom and joy. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ set me FREE and I will not be entangled in bondage again. I am not signing up for religion's rules; I am entering RELATIONSHIP with the One who came to give ABUNDANT LIFE. The BARAK blessing over my life includes JOY unspeakable and peace that passes understanding. IT IS WRITTEN that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is LIBERTY. I am not becoming joyless and judgmental; I am becoming FREE and FULLY ALIVE. My boundaries are WISDOM not bondage, LOVE not law. I am a DAUGHTER of the King who throws parties, turns water to wine, and calls me into FULLNESS. I walk in FREEDOM, JOY, and ABUNDANT LIFE.
The Father is running toward you saying, 'I didn't send My Son to make you miserable - I sent Him to make you FREE. Come to the party I'm throwing, taste the wine I've prepared, experience JOY that religion could never offer. You're not signing your life away - you're signing into FULLNESS.' The robe, ring, and sandals come with the feast - celebration, not restriction.
