"Real faith would make me confident and bold, but I'm shy and scared—I'm failing at faith."
How it sounds in your head: I see other kids confidently sharing their faith, praying out loud, raising their hands in worship. I'm too nervous to do those things. I stay quiet when someone makes fun of Christians. Maybe I don't have real faith if I can't be bold like they are.
"But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'"
-- 1 Samuel 16:7Source: Church culture that equates personality type (extroversion) with spiritual maturity, making boldness a measure of faith rather than recognizing diverse callings.
When extroverted kids are praised for public displays of faith and you're naturally quiet, it feels like your personality is a spiritual defect. You're told to be bold for Jesus, and when you're not, it seems like evidence your faith isn't real or strong enough.
Moses told God 'I am slow of speech and slow of tongue—I can't do this.' God didn't say 'get over your shyness first'—He said 'I will be with your mouth and teach you what to say,' and used him to deliver an entire nation despite his speech anxiety.
I REFUSE the lie that my quiet personality means weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that God looks at the HEART, not outward boldness or personality type—He chose Moses who was 'slow of speech' and Jeremiah who said 'I cannot speak.' Faith isn't measured by extroversion or public displays—it's measured by TRUST in God's word. IT IS WRITTEN that there are different gifts and callings (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)—I'm not called to be like everyone else, I'm called to be WHO GOD MADE ME. I am a BRANCH in the VINE—my fruit looks like what Jesus designed for ME, not what He designed for others. The BARAK blessing flows through my unique wiring, not through copying someone else's personality. My Father celebrates WHO I AM, not who religion says I should be.
Your Father made you EXACTLY as you are, with your quiet strength and gentle heart, and He's NOT disappointed that you're not extroverted. He's running toward you with celebration, delighting in the REAL you, not waiting for you to become someone else before He can use you.
