"Real Christians don't struggle like I do; something is wrong with me."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone else seems to have it together—they worship with hands raised while I'm battling doubt. They quote verses while I'm fighting temptation. They pray eloquently while I can barely focus. If I were a real Christian, I wouldn't struggle this much.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Source: Comparison trap fueled by religious performance culture that hides struggles and presents false perfection as the standard for authentic faith.
He sees curated versions of others' faith—the public prayers, the Instagram worship posts, the confident testimonies—while his private battles rage. He assumes their highlight reel is their whole reality, and measures his behind-the-scenes against their edited performance.
John baptized Jesus and heard God's audible voice declaring Him the Son of God, yet months later from PRISON he sent messengers asking, 'Are You really the One, or should we expect someone else?'—even the greatest prophet doubted. Jesus didn't rebuke him; He sent back proof and called him the greatest born of women.
I REFUSE the lie that real Christians don't struggle. IT IS WRITTEN that God's strength is made perfect in my WEAKNESS. John the Baptist heard God's audible voice, yet later sent messengers asking if Jesus was really the Messiah—even the greatest prophet DOUBTED. Jesus didn't condemn him for it; He called him the greatest born of women. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 103:14 that 'He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.' God isn't shocked by my struggles—He factored them in. I am not defined by the battle; I'm defined by the One fighting FOR me. I am the BARAK blessed, righteous by GIFT not by perfect performance, loved in the struggle not after it. Weakness isn't disqualification; it's the stage for His strength.
The Father smiles and says, 'Everyone else is struggling too—they're just not posting about it. I don't need you to be strong; I need you to be CONNECTED. Your doubt doesn't scare Me. Your temptation doesn't shock Me. Come to Me IN the struggle, and watch what I do with your weakness.' He's preparing breakthrough not because you've conquered, but because you're HIS.
