"Prayer works for others because they're more spiritual—I'm too broken for God to use."
How it sounds in your head: You've got a past—addiction, sexual sin, failures you can't erase. Those other guys are 'clean,' faithful, together. Of course God listens to them. But you? You're barely holding it together. God doesn't use broken men.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.'"
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Source: Shame and religious comparison, making God's response conditional on YOUR spiritual résumé instead of JESUS' finished work.
You look at guys who seem to have it together—stable marriage, good career, leading Bible studies—and their lives look BLESSED. Your life looks chaotic by comparison, and you assume God plays favorites based on who's 'cleaner.'
Rahab was a PROSTITUTE—not a former prostitute who cleaned up first, but an ACTIVE prostitute when she hid the spies. She lied to protect them, and God HONORED her for it. She's listed in the MESSIANIC LINE in Matthew 1:5—Jesus' genealogy includes a prostitute who lied.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too broken for God to use or answer. IT IS WRITTEN that God's strength is made PERFECT in WEAKNESS—He doesn't wait for me to be fixed. My past, my failures, my brokenness don't disqualify me; they POSITION me for grace. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 5:20 that where sin abounded, GRACE abounded MUCH MORE. The BARAK blessing flowed to Judah even after he slept with his daughter-in-law—covenant covers brokenness. I am not too broken; I am PERFECTLY positioned for God's strength.
The Father isn't looking for the most spiritual, most put-together son to bless—He's running toward the broken one, the mess, the 'shouldn't qualify.' Like the prodigal covered in pig filth receiving the robe and ring, your brokenness is the EXACT place God's grace shines brightest.
