"Poverty is more spiritual than wealth—God favors the humble poor."
How it sounds in your head: You hear preachers talk about 'blessed are the poor' and 'easier for a camel through a needle's eye.' You've been to churches where poverty was nearly holy and wealth was suspicious. Maybe your struggle is actually God's approval—maybe wanting more is carnal, greedy, unspiritual.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Religious lie that baptizes poverty as virtue, creating false humility that rejects covenant blessing as God's design.
Scripture seems to warn against wealth, praise the poor, and you've heard a lifetime of sermons suggesting money is 'the root of all evil' (misquoted). Your poverty feels spiritual, even righteous, compared to 'prosperity gospel' excess you've seen condemned.
Job lost everything and his 'comforters' said his suffering proved God's judgment. When God restored him, He gave him DOUBLE what he'd lost—proving God's heart is RESTORATION to abundance, not sanctification through poverty. His latter days were more blessed than his beginning.
I REFUSE the lie that poverty is more spiritual than wealth. IT IS WRITTEN that God's will is that I prosper in ALL things and be in health. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Solomon—all wealthy, all righteous. Jesus came to give ABUNDANT life, not ascetic lack. Poverty is the CURSE Christ redeemed me from—wealth is the BLESSING of Abraham placed on me. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow. I am not more holy broke—I am more EFFECTIVE prosperous because I can be a conduit of blessing to others. The barak blessing includes storehouses FULL, lending to nations, abundance in all things. I reject poverty theology as religious bondage and I RECEIVE prosperity as covenant reality. I prosper as my soul prospers, and my soul knows I am BLESSED.
The Father sees you sanctifying your lack as humility and He's RUNNING toward you saying, 'I didn't put the blessing of Abraham on you so you could stay poor and call it holy! The prodigal didn't get a lecture on simplicity—he got the ROBE and the RING! Abundance is My nature, and you're My son!'
