"Pain medications are God's answer to my prayers for healing."
How it sounds in your head: I prayed for healing and God led me to a good pain management doctor. These medications help me function—maybe that's God's way of healing. I need to be grateful for modern medicine rather than expecting a supernatural miracle. God works through doctors.
"If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you."
-- Exodus 15:26Religion substitutes medical management for divine healing, calling it God's provision to make peace with continued suffering rather than contending for the finished work of the cross.
The medications do provide measurable relief, and grateful acceptance of 'God's provision through medicine' feels more spiritually mature than being disappointed that supernatural healing hasn't come. Doctors are skilled, medications work, and many church leaders teach that medicine is God's answer to prayer.
Peter's mother-in-law was sick with a high fever, bedridden and unable to serve. Jesus came, touched her hand, and IMMEDIATELY the fever left her—not gradually reduced, not managed with medication, but GONE—and she got up and served them right then with complete strength restored.
I REFUSE the lie that pain management is the fullness of God's healing promise. IT IS WRITTEN: 'I am the LORD who HEALS you'—not manages, not reduces, but HEALS. I'm grateful for medical help as a temporary tool, but I will not call symptom management the finished work of Calvary. Jesus bore my sicknesses and carried my pains so I wouldn't have to carry them myself, medicated or not. IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I AM healed—present tense, complete work. Under the BARAK blessing of Abraham, God's identity is JEHOVAH RAPHA, the God who heals, and His nature doesn't change based on what modern medicine can accomplish. I contend for the fullness—supernatural divine health that needs no chemical support.
The Father doesn't look at your pill bottles and say 'That's close enough to healing'—He sees Jesus' stripes and says 'The price for complete wholeness was already paid.' Like the prodigal's father who didn't give his son a servant's room with pain medication but full restoration to sonship, your Father offers complete healing, not managed symptoms.
