"Others have peace about dying—I'm terrified, which means I don't have enough faith."
How it sounds in your head: You hear stories of saints who faced death calmly, even joyfully. Your heart races at night. You're afraid of the process, the pain, the unknown. Maybe your fear proves you're not really saved, not really trusting God.
"Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You."
-- Psalm 56:3Religious lie that fear disqualifies faith—ignoring that Jesus Himself sweat blood in Gethsemane and asked for the cup to pass.
Fear feels like failure when you've been taught that 'perfect love casts out fear' means you should never be afraid. Your body's panic response feels like spiritual weakness.
When told he'd die, Hezekiah 'wept bitterly' and begged God for more time—no peaceful acceptance, just raw fear and desperate pleading. God heard, honored his tears, and gave him 15 more years. Emotion didn't disqualify him.
I REFUSE the lie that fear cancels faith. IT IS WRITTEN that even David said 'WHEN I am afraid'—fear is human, not failure. Jesus sweat blood facing death; my terror doesn't make me less saved. IT IS WRITTEN that NOTHING can separate me from God's love—not death, not fear, not weakness. I don't have to perform peace. God holds me THROUGH the fear, not after I conquer it. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and my salvation never depended on brave feelings. Perfect love casts out fear, and HIS love is perfect even when mine trembles.
The Father isn't disappointed by your fear—He's near to it. He doesn't require composed saints; He cradles terrified daughters and says, 'I've got you. You don't have to be brave; I AM brave for you. Just hold My hand.'
