"Nobody respects me anymore. Unemployment makes me a failure in everyone's eyes."
How it sounds in your head: You see it at gatherings when someone asks 'What do you do?' and you have to say 'I'm... between opportunities.' The conversation dies. Their eyes shift. You're no longer interesting. Your opinions carry less weight. Even your kids look at you differently. Respect was tied to your title, and now the title's gone.
"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."
-- 1 Peter 2:9Identity lie rooted in performance and position versus covenant sonship.
Men are what they DO in this culture. No business card means no identity. Other guys talk about their projects and promotions and you've got nothing. You went from decision-maker to invisible. The silence after you explain your situation says everything.
Joseph went from PRISON to PRIME MINISTER in one day. Pharaoh's officials went to bed with Joseph in chains and woke up with him ruling the empire. One moment he's a forgotten prisoner, the next he's second in command of Egypt with everyone bowing. INSTANT respect reversal.
I REFUSE the lie that my value comes from my job title. IT IS WRITTEN: I am a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, His own special people. I am ROYALTY regardless of my employment status. My identity is SEATED in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN: the blessing of the LORD makes rich and adds no sorrow. The BARAK blessing on me doesn't fluctuate with my 401k. I am Abraham's seed, heir according to PROMISE. People's opinions don't define me—God's WORD defines me. And His Word says I am BLESSED, CHOSEN, ROYAL, and FAVORED. Respect is FINDING me because I carry the presence of the King. DOORS are opening RIGHT NOW.
The Father doesn't see you as unemployed. He sees you as His beloved son in whom He is well pleased. Your value to Him has nothing to do with your productivity and everything to do with your position. He's about to show you—and everyone watching—that promotion comes from HIM, not a hiring manager.
