"My worth comes from what I do for God, not who I am in Him."
How it sounds in your head: When you're leading or teaching or serving, you feel valuable. When you're not, you feel invisible. Your identity is wrapped up in your ministry title. If you lose that, who even are you? You matter because you're useful. Stop being useful and you stop mattering.
"Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will."
-- Ephesians 1:4-5Performance-based identity—worth tied to production instead of position in Christ.
People notice you when you're on stage or leading. They compliment your gifts. When you're just sitting in church not doing anything, you feel like you disappear. Your value feels conditional on your contribution.
John identified himself as 'the disciple whom JESUS LOVED'—not the disciple who preached the best sermons or performed the most miracles. His IDENTITY was being LOVED by Jesus. That's what he wanted to be known for. His worth wasn't in his works; it was in his belovedness.
I REFUSE the lie that my worth comes from my works. IT IS WRITTEN that I was CHOSEN before the foundation of the world—before I did anything for God. My identity is DAUGHTER, not worker. IT IS WRITTEN that the Spirit bears witness that I am a CHILD of God. I am under the BARAK blessing that covered Abraham even when he LIED—blessing based on COVENANT, not behavior. My Father's love for me isn't conditional on my ministry output. I am the beloved. That's my name. That's my worth. I receive my identity as GIFT, not achievement.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to do more to love you more. He's the One who chose you before you existed, who calls you BELOVED not because of what you produce but because of WHO HE IS. Like the prodigal, you're valuable because you're His—not because you perform well.
